This was the 1st of 4 Quilts that I made to be raffled off for Naisha and Gavin's climb this July. They are climbing Mt. Rainer for the Climb for Clean Air 2010 American Lung Association. Naisha sent out support letters to all the people she knew, and this quilt was an incentive for them to get there money in by a certain date, for every $5 they donated they got a chance in the drawing... James Cosgrov from Arizona won the quilt...
The inspiration for this quilt was I went into Jo-ann fabrics picked up a book which was (Rolling Along by Nancy J. Martin) http://www.martingale-pub.com/ and opened it to page 29 and said what ever it was I was going to make it...Then I went over to the fabric and just started putting things together...It was originally going to be greens and browns but I could find fabric I liked in those colors, then the blues just popped out at me...and so it began, the pattern was easy to make but difficult to follow along, because the material she has in the pattern has a different pattern through out the fabric, so you are not for sure what pieces go where, and needless to say I had one piece in the wrong place and didn't realize it until all the squares were put together so you know what that means...Yep tear it all apart and redo it...Boy was that frustrating...the backing was a fleece sheet that I used with warm and natural batting. Then I did a stippling stitch for the quilting which is my favorite, and also the easiest for me as I have not yet really mastered my long arm quilter yet.
