It's hard to believe it was a little over a year ago that I put my last post on here. Where does the time go. Once again it is in the middle of the night and I need to get to bed. Hopefully next time I get on here another year hasn't gone by.

Yellowstone Park Photo Quilt

This quilt was made for Mark Miller retirement from the Yellowstone post office. I found the pattern in Sitka Alaska. I had Mike and Kayla take pictures of all the Post Offices out in Yellowstone Park, and used Marks Christmas card pictures he had sent us over the years, and an assortment of photos of Yellowstone, I believe there are 120 pictures in all. I printed the picture on the fabric myself, I did a little experimenting and after a few trial and errors I came up with the best process.



Printing on fabric step by step.
1st I cut my fabric the size of a legal size piece of paper.(The reason legal size vs standard is that I had less waste because of the size pictures)
I Ironed that onto a piece of freezer paper the same size. Waxy side to fabric
then I put a strip of 2 sided tape on the back of the freezer paper and attacked that to a piece of card stock. (to give it stability when going through the printer)
I Arranged my photo's on a program in the computer to get the most photo's on one piece of paper, then I printed them. Peeled off the freezer paper and press the back of the fabric with a hot Iron to set the ink. I used a PDF fabric so the ink would absorb.(I bought the fabric at Quilting in the Country in Bozeman Montana.) I like the way the fabric felt it wasn't stiff or anything. I did a wash test and it washed up just fine. You do need to remember to leave a 1/2 inch around each photo for your 1/4" stitching line. This method is definitely cheaper then buying the printer fabric paper. about an eighth the cost.

Sailing Quilts

The 2 twin size quilts were made for Victoria Coleman again. She like the first one I made for her little guy that she wanted me to make two more for her older boys, who shared a room. She wanted them to be about sailing, so I personalized them by embroidering some of their favorite places under all of the applicaies that I made. and putting their names on. The backs were flannel one red and one blue. I also made each boy two throw pillows and a pillow case. I Charged $300 ea.

Barbara's Quilt

This quilt was made by my daughter Kayla and I. She was doing her student teaching in Gardiner Montana with Barbara Bush who was Kayla's preschool teacher when she was little. Barbara now teaches 1st grade, any she wanted to do something special for Barbara at the end of her student teaching. She found out that Barbara loves quilts, but can not sew. She also has a love for flip flops. So one day when Barbara was gone from class and Kayla was her sub. She had each of the 1st graders put their painted feet on a piece of material.
Which she then brought out to me in Seattle when she was on spring break and we built the quilt together. I embroidered around each foot to make it look like a flip flop, then we took ribbon and sewed it on to look like straps and placed a large flower button between the toes. Barbara only had fourteen kids, and we were one block short so we embroider Children leave footprints on your heart. The class and the year on a square and added it to the middle. It turned out perfect. Barbara Loved it and Kayla and I had a great time putting it together.

Experimental Quilt

This was an experimental quilt. I had seen something similar at a sewing expo. I wasn't exactly sure howe it was made. So I took a plate from my cupboard and traced around in onto fleece material. Lime green and hot pink. I had embroidered some sample of Winnie the pooh's on squares of flannel when I first got my new Brother embroidery machine. (you know to try out some of the cool features) so I took one of those and put it in the middle of the circle and stitched two circles together and folded the edge over to make the frame. And to my amazement it worked. So then I was so excited I wanted to try more so I had to embroider more Winnie the Poohs cut more circles and before I knew it I had a baby quilt made. I absolutely loved it. and it was fun to do. I ended up donating it to the youth mission's trip silent auction at Highline Christian Church.

Nolan's Baby Quilt

Nolan my Great Nephew laying on his quilt I made for him. I made his with football fabric, because his dad played football in high school. His name and birth info are also embroidered into a square. I try to always put flannel on the backs to make them extra cozy.

Christian's Baby Quilt

Quilt made for my Great Nephew Christian. He and his mom and dad live in Florida, so I made this one a sea and beach theme. I embroidered his name and birth info into one of the squares.

Raggedy Ann

I found this Raggedy Ann fabric in a thrift store. It was a panel to make a Raggedy Ann stuffed doll. I wasn't sure at the time what I was going to do with it but I really liked the material. So I ironed on a fusible web to the back of the fabric then fussy cut Raggedy Ann out and put her on another piece of fabric with Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and written all over it Raggedy Ann , Raggedy Andy, that once again I found in a thrift shop. (Gotta love those thrift shops) Then I just patched together some pieces to make a boarded and then used the lefts overs for the binding. I used the back side of the doll and put it on the back of the quilt. It was absolutely adorable. The one mistake I made was that the fusible wed was a little heavy and it made the quilt a little stiff. I donated this to Seattle Children's hospital.

Jungle Quilt

This quilt was made as an order. I was flying with Victoria Coleman on a flight and she saw me looking at a quilting magazine and asked if I ever made quilts to sell. I had never sold one before, so I wasn't even sure what to charge. She wanted some thing with wild animals in browns and greens and could I make one for $100. I had just made my daughter Naisha some scrubs out of the jungle print and had left overs and thought what the heck. So I made the quilt and embroidered her sons name on it. I didn't have a lot of money invested as it was all left over fabric, so I made a hundred bucks doing something I absolutely love.

Brady's 50th Birthday Quilt

I made this one for my Brother Brady's 50th birthday. He wanted a quilt that would hang all the way over his bed and was really heavy. Like the quilt our Grandma had when we were kids. This was done with flannels and I embroidered wildlife animal in every square. The quilt is 120 x 120 it barely fit on my quilting frame. The back is brown corduroy so it was definitely heavy as he wished for.

Naisha and Gavin's Wedding Quilt

This Quilt was made for a wedding gift for my daughter, Naisha and her husband Gavin. They both like the Asian theme. I chose the colors from some curtains that I had made for Gavin in his first apartment in down town Seattle. I purchased most of the fabric at Pacific Fabrics. The pattern I used was called Japanese Trellis.
